The Center for Research in Cognitive Science

The Center for Research in Cognitive Science

The Center for Research in Cognitive Sciences at CCU has been dedicated to fostering and promoting cognitive sciences for nearly three decades since its inception in 1990. Currently the Center is now engaging in two main research projects: The first project is an interdisciplinary team project to use a neuro-computational approach to investigating the cross-modal processing and integration of emotion in the human brain. The second project examines the age differences in the brain mechanism in face processing and memory between young and older adults. Starting in September 2014, the Center has been offering an all-English doctoral program in cognitive sciences (CS) with the joint efforts of faculty members of Departments of Psychology, Philosophy, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Engineering, Graduate Institute of Linguistics, and Education. The main objectives of the PhD program are to explore the nature of the human mind and intelligence, the brain mechanisms underlying mental functions, the behaviors that derive from the mental faculties as well as application of basic knowledge to improve education, human factors and mental health. The CS center has also held numerous international conferences over the years to further promote cognitive science in Taiwan and the globe. For example, in September, 2017, the Center was the main organizer for hosting the 11th International Conference in Cognitive Science (ICCS 2017) in Taipei, Taiwan, attracting a participation of more than 300 scholars and graduate students from various parts of the world. In December, 2018, we hosted the first International Symposium on Affective Science and Application (1st ISASA) at the CCU campus to introduce the burgeoning new field in affective science and its applications.
